Boughton Pond Silt Treatment

On Saturday 17th February on Boughton Pond you may have witnessed scenes recalling Jerome K Jerome or Last of the Summer Wine.
In fact, Parish Councillors and volunteers were applying a calcium carbonate product to the water to help reduce the silt that has built up over the years.
This is the Environment Agency recommended course of action, preferred over dredging. The product is safe for humans, pets, ducks, fish and plant.
About a third of the pond was treated on this occasion, with more applications to come next year and in 2026.

Thanks to Roger Warner for the loan of his punt and paddling for us, volunteers Simon Miller and Richard Johnston for getting their hands dirty, and Councillor Payne for the heavy lifting and direction.

Neil Matthew
Chair, Boughton Parish Council
